I am a computer tutor licensed through Digital Unite. I have over 20 years experience in IT and am keen to pass on my skills to others. I am based in Blyth, Northumberland and am happy to travel throughout south-east Northumberland and Newcastle.

Digital Unite is committed to helping older people gain access to IT and I am supported by them in delivering training tailored to the needs of older people. During 2008 I delivered training on behalf of Digital Unite at two of their community programmes.

I am currently working with Northumberland Libraries to deliver taster sessions on using the internet and sending e-mail as part of their Transformation project. I have also helped them deliver events for Silver Surfers' Day and Older Peoples' Day.

What you get

When you choose individual computer training you get

  • A free, initial assessment of your needs. Usually a phone chat, we will discuss your computer experience and needs. I'll suggest the skills I think you need to learn and you decide how many sessions you'd like.
  • Personalised tuition on your own computer. You will learn to use the software that you have. This means that you will not learn something only to find that it's different when you get home.
  • Tuition at a time convenient to you, in the comfort of your own home.
  • Access to Digital Unite training materials.

What you can learn

The training sessions will be tailored to your needs. If you are a complete beginner you may need help with:

  • Confidently turning the computer on and off
  • Manipulating the mouse
  • Finding your way around the keyboard

Other novice users may wish to learn about:

  • Accessing the internet
  • Sending e-mails
  • Making free phone calls via the internet

Depending on your interests and hobbies you might be interested in:

  • Word processing
  • On-line shopping
  • Working with digital photos

What it costs

  • Sessions will be charged at an hourly rate of between £18 and £25
  • Discounts are available for block bookings
  • There may be a small charge to cover printing any training materials
  • Travel expenses for travel outside of my standard area
  • Advanced tuition at additional cost
